Humphrey II
The dream to fly – within the frame of Ars Electronica 2003 the new version of the popular flying machine in the Ars Electronica Center is presented.

Virtual Reality Systems and Force Feedback apparatuses are the most significant technical elements to simulate a still more realistic fly through simulated ambients. As an innovation the user feels an imaginary centrifugal force and air movements which cause a full-scale illusion to fly. The user wears a pilot’s overall that is fixed on suspensions and a pneumatic gear construction. With this overall the user is lifted into the air. The main item for the optic simulation are data glasses. By movements of the head it is possible to navigate, to look around in the virtual realities and to explore the computer-generated worlds. In fractions of a second the computer generates stereographic pictures – a complete illusion to fly. Welcome to virtuality!
