Conferences and Symposia at the 2004 Ars Electronica Festival
In addition to the Prix Ars Electronica Forum, the TIMESHIFT Symposium and the Language of Networks Conference, a series of individual meetings will provide a glimpse into the fascinating world of digital media and the cyberarts.

To mark the premiere of the “Digital Avant-Garde / Prix Selection” exhibition showcasing a sampling of prizewinning works from over the years in the Prix Ars Electronica’s Interactive Art category, artists who are represented in the show will present their projects and discuss conceptual aspects of working with interactive media.

This year’s “Pixelspaces,” the Ars Electronica Futurelab Symposium, will be dedicated to the question of the extent to which artistically oriented strategies for the development of new interaction concepts and for the implementation of technologies can be a source of creative impetus in areas beyond the realm of art. In addition to Ars Electronica Futurelab staff members, representatives of international art and media laboratories will be taking part in this event.

At the “Re-inventing Radio” Symposium on September 6, Gene Youngblood (USA), Robert Adrian (CDN), Tetsuo Kogawa (Nomad), Heidi Grundmann (A), Radioqualia (NZ) and Inke Arns (D) will discuss the development of radio and telecommunications art in light of the impact of communication, propagation, surveillance and control. This event is being produced in cooperation with Ö1 Kunstradio.
