TIMESHIFT Symposium
In each of four sessions dealing with this year’s festival theme—“TIMESHIFT – The World in 25 Years”—four respected pioneers in fields of art, technology and society will engage a young commentator in a dialogue about the future.
The first round of talks entitled “PROGRESS” focuses on the promises of science and technology. It will address the dreams, hopes and wishes that are being made possible by progress in the fields of computer and cognitive science, digital media, biotech and nanotech. The second forum entitled “DISRUPTION” takes up errors, coincidences, accidents and refusal. It is meant to show the relativity of intentions and how they can be dashed.
“SPIRIT,” the third TIMESHIFT symposium, treats the shift of consciousness back to the self in contradistinction to global considerations. This discussion is meant to shed light on topics like well-being, pleasure, family and mortality. The centerpiece of “TOPIA” is the world in 25 years. The aim is to generate scenarios on a wide variety of artistically, technologically and socially relevant themes.
At these discussion sessions, the young artists and researches who will be assuming the moderating duties will come face to face with renowned experts from all over the world including Esther Dyson, Joichi Ito, Michael Naimark, Paul Virilio and Peter Weibel.
