Ars Electronica Highlights (September, 5)
Prof. Itsuo Sakane, a contemporary eyewitness to the history of media art, will deliver a very interesting address on this subject at the Brucknerhaus on September 5, 2004.

“On the History of Interaction between Art and Technology – Towards the Cultural Evolution of Human Beings” will deal with the ‘50s and ‘60s, which Prof. Sakane will document with a comprehensive collection of material. He will scrutinize the historical changes that have manifested themselves in digital technology’s influence on art, and shed light on the connections between art, science and technology since the ‘50s. These remarks will also go beyond the confines of art in order to show the extent to which digital art and technology have had an impact on cultural evolution and the integration of a number of different spheres of life.

At 7:30 PM in the Posthof, festivalgoers will have a second opportunity to experience “Apparition,” a fascinating dance and media performance in which interactive sensor and tracking technology makes it possible for the dancers to interact with the stage setting and the musical accompaniment.
