Ars Electronica Highlights (September, 7)
“The Big Showdown”—a gala evening of computer gaming in the Brucknerhaus—will be the grand finale of this year’s Ars Electronica Festival.
During the first part of the evening, artists will present live performances of their VR and game applications. Then comes “The Big Showdown”: in each round, two teams composed of gamers, DJs and VJs face off in a duel. The teams will be recruited during the Festival. Registration site and training area is the electrolobby.
The highlight of the afternoon program will be the launch of “Creative Commons Austria.” Creative Commons is an Internet platform that provides a gateway to the free availability of creative material—music, websites, literature and film—and is, at the same time, dedicated to copyright protection. Creative Commons makes available—freely and free-of-charge—licensing agreements with which works can be released for public use with “some rights reserved.” Creative Commons won the Golden Nica in the 2004 Prix Ars Electronica’s Net Vision category.
In commemoration of the victims of the recent terrorist bombing in Madrid, a chamber music concert will be held in the SKY Media Loft at 7 PM. Four vocalists utilize their voices overlain with various recorded sounds to produce a polyphonic effect. Processed video sequences and digital editing come into play as well.
Daily Lineup: September 7, 2004
