Daily Highlights – September 2, 2005
The Brucknerhaus is the setting for the highpoint of the Ars Electronica Festival—the grand opening gala and the 2005 Prix Ars Electronica awards ceremony.

In addition to prizewinning artworks and projects, the evening will feature artistic interventions by Mercan Dede, Dennis Russell Davies, Maki Namekawa and Zachary Lieberman. Mercan Dede is a one-of-a-kind personality in the Istanbul art scene that has just been exploding with creative energy lately. His work combines Near Eastern musical traditions with digital sounds. At his guest appearance in the Brucknerhaus, he’ll showcase his new project entitled “Secret Tribe.” Following the concert, Cherry Sunkist will deliver “Surrounding DJ Set” in the Lobby.

This year’s symposium deals with the “Hybrid” theme. The first session focuses on the question of hybridization. How does this actually come about? The second part goes into cultural and political hybridization.

“Imago” will be presented at the Stadtwerkstatt on September 2nd & 6th. Digital processes are utilized to fragment and transform a singer’s voice to a point at which it becomes impossible to clearly differentiate between the actual voice and the digital one. The projected image of the singer is subjected to the same process.
