The fifth day of the Festival features a series of interesting conferences. Their themes range from media literacy to urban development to the legacy of media theoretician Marshall McLuhan.
At the “World Culture Forum” in the Brucknerhaus, panelists will discuss issues having to do with cultural memory and diversity, and problems of cultural sustainability and human development in the context of a globalized Information Society. Immediately thereafter, the electrolobby Kitchen will host an open forum entitled “Cultural Sustainability and the Digital Divide – Positions for WSIS II Tunis 2005.”
Derrick de Kerckhove’s keynote address will deal with Marshall McLuhan and his work. McLuhan’s theories about media declined in influence following his death, but they have experienced a renaissance with the emergence of the Internet. De Kerckhove will give a comprehensive overview of McLuhan’s work and the ongoing development of his ideas.
In transpublic, Ludger Hovestadt and Dietmar Dietrich will present the latest technological research in the field of urban development.
