In a project commissioned by ASFINAG and the Province of Lower Austria, the Ars Electronica Futurelab created a visualization of the redesign of a highway interchange in the form of virtual car trips. In this way, the stretches of road that are affected by the construction work can be visualized from the motorist’s perspective or observed from a bird’s eye view. With this innovative public information campaign, the clients want to make motorists aware in a timely manner of changed traffic conditions on certain roads and enable them to plan their routes accordingly so that they suffer as little inconvenience as possible.
The simulation was done with VRTools. It is based on exact project data and oriented on position specifications provided by a navigation system.
Büro Klestil and Elmar Schmidinger collaborated on this simulation.
