Lab Space

“Lab Space” showcases a selection of the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s recently completed projects as a close-up look at the facility’s achievements and areas of special expertise.
Information about the individual works is made available by means of an innovative media platform that was developed by the Futurelab for visualizations of primarily cultural content such as material to be displayed in an exhibition context.
The information summoned by the user constitutes a three-dimensional dynamic data space, the structure of which depends upon the user’s actions.

The outstanding feature of this interface is its flexible set-up. Both the content as well as the functions facilitating interaction can be freely positioned in space depending on the type of application. The sensors that monitor the user’s activities and report to the system can be mounted under any available surface (e.g. a tabletop). The description of the function is then simply projected onto that surface.

The Futurelab developed “Imagining,” the first prototype of this installation with Land Design Studio, for the Urbis Museum project in Manchester.
