TimeExplorer

Multidimensional multimedia installation for the Province Expo 2000 in Wels.
The Ars Electronica Futurelab was commissioned to conceive and install an exhibition on the subject of time for one level of the Province of Upper Austria’s Expo to be held in the Minorite monastery in Wels.

The interactive experience “TimeExplorer” proceeds under the assumption that experience gained in the past has an impact on the decisions we make in the present and continues to affect us this way in the future. In the first part, the visitors themselves are put in the position to take steps that will determine future developments, and thus design a version of the future of Linz. At interactive video tables, visitors are queried about their prognostications of technological, economic and political developments as well as their own personal attitudes and worldviews. The (anonymous) results are evaluated by computer and categorized in corresponding future scenarios, which are then transferred onto a computer model of the city of Linz and constitute the core of the multimedia presentation.
