An exhibition staged by the Ars Electronica Futurelab provided the setting for festivities celebrating the opening of HP’s new facility in Vienna.
In a series of interactive installations, the Ars Electronica Futurelab invited guests to take a journey of discovery showcasing HP’s achievements on the leading edge of high-tech. Individual stations included Info-Benches, the InnovisionWall and Tug of War. Another featured attraction was the “Pocket Museum” interactive information system, a piece of state-of-the-art technology developed especially to mediate visitors’ encounter with HP’s corporate history.
"Pocket Museum" brings together several key technologies in an integrated package: a pocket PC as mobile user interface linked up via WLAN with an Internet-based content management system providing access to multimedia content, and the entire set-up featuring Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The user surfs with an HP iPAQ Pocket PC along the most important milestones in HP's corporate history, whereby RFID tags set up at selected locations throughout the installation offer the possibility of accessing specific, context-dependent content. The result is a mobile museum tour guide that interacts with an intelligent space to enable users to experience the future of pocket technology.
