In this sound installation by Rupert Huber, a website functions as a musical score instrument. The image of a pebble-strewn riverbank forms the interface through which individual compositional elements can be combined.
Every musical sequence can be played out in combination with others (synchronized) or as an independent entity. The point is to enable individual segments of a piece of music to endure in their own time and to form a new time configuration in combination with others. The musical sequences that make up WHY SYNC? were composed not only as separate pieces but also as components of an overall work. The website as interface forms an appropriate score. What the user sees are pebbles on a riverbank, each of which conceals tonal structures, text or notes beneath it.
Programming of the sound playback software and network design: Daniel Scheffler, Berlin.
