A Virtual Outing through the Millennium Dome’s Worlds of Experience.

The Millennium Dome in Greenwich, England features the world’s largest exhibition about the turn of the millennium. 80,000 square meters of exhibit space accommodate 14 exhibition zones featuring breathtaking attractions dealing with such diverse themes as work, learning, money, body, play, journey, shared ground, living island, home planet, talk, faith, and rest.

The Ars Electronica Center Linz was invited by the Land Design Co. to get involved as a consulting partner for the PlayZone exhibition area. The Ars Electronica Center Linz not only recruited artists to work on this project; as the proprietor of the Museum of the Future, it also brought in its own know-how in the field of exhibition technology—especially with respect to dealing with new technologies and digital media in the context of conceptualizing the exhibition and in the exhibits themselves. The Ars Electronica Futurelab was also responsible for two installations on site. One of them is “ArchitecTours.”
“ArchitecTours” provides visitors with a VR bike that enables them to take an exciting virtual ride through the worlds of experience in the Millennium Dome—since January 1, 2000 London’s newest attraction. Since January 2000, the installation is also part of the exhibition at the Ars Electronica Center.
