3-D enhancement of a HYBREX simulator for fine rolling mills in a virtual environment and modification of the simulator for the CAVE.
In cooperation with the Johannes Kepler University of Linz’s Department of Business Informatics under the direction of Prof. Pomberger, the Ars Electronica Futurelab developed a model of a hot band rolling mill for a virtual environment, whereby the model can be controlled in many details by means of a virtual menu. The application simulates the individual job steps and modes of functioning of an actual plant facility and features a realistic setting.
The project was presented at the market launch of the simulator at the Metals and Metallurgy 2000 trade fair in Peking, China. The I-Wall installed by the Ars Electronica Futurelab especially for the presentation was the first such device to be used in the People’s Republic of China.
