Internet Courses 50+

Get involved in the fascinating world of the Internet! The Ars Electronica Center is once again offering its popular computer courses designed especially for the over-50 age group!

Courses are conducted by experienced instructors and place particular emphasis on the needs and aims of older users. Four courses teach you the fundamentals of using a computer and how to take advantage of the Internet for communication, information, shopping, interacting with government agencies and a lot more. The Internet Roundtable 50+ is an additional opportunity for graduates of Parts I – III to solve individual problems they’ve encountered in using the Internet.

Part I – Getting a Grasp of the Basics
This course is designed primarily for PC novices who want to familiarize themselves with the Internet. The fundamentals of using a computer are explained by means of practical exercises. This is followed by virtual excursions into the world of the Internet for some initial exploration of the incredible abundance of information available on it.

Part II – Communication in the Internet
The focus of the second Internet course is on communication. Participants will learn everything about working with email—setting up their own email account, writing, sending and receiving electronic messages, as well as sending pictures and files along with them.

Part III – Practical Uses of the Internet
This seminar for advanced users will go into additional ways to take advantage of the Internet. From handling banking transactions to doing your shopping from home—the World Wide Web can simplify everyday life considerably! Another key topic on this seminar’s agenda is net security and how to effectively protect your home computer from viruses and hacker attacks.

Part IV – Citizens’ Services Online
E-Government services are currently being expanded and enhanced by agencies from the local to the federal level. In this seminar, our committed and involved instructor will show you how to conveniently take care of official matters—from filing your tax return to applying for an absentee ballot—from the privacy of your own home.

Internet Roundtable 50+
Graduates of Parts I – III have the opportunity to join a discussion group in which participants can seek answers to questions (related to the course material) that arise in connection with their individual use of the Internet. Each Internet Roundtable lasts three hours and costs 15 €.

The tuition for this four-hour Internet course (including coffee break in the SKY Media Loft) is 21 €. Due to the limited number of participants in each course, we kindly request you to register in advance with Ms. Renata Aigner (Tel.: 0732/7272-51, email: center.bs@aec.at).
