At the Ars Electronica Center, guests can take a guided tour of the new Project Genesis exhibition, use their smartphone to pilot a drone helicopter in the AEC’s Lobby, watch the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s quadcopter swarm fly in formation above the Danube, and experience breathtaking worlds of imagery in Deep Space.

An overview of what’s up at the Ars Electronica Center:

Scientific achievements in recent years have made it possible not only to read genetic information but to write it too. Nevertheless, is it actually even permissible to engender life in the lab? This 30-minute tour through the new Project Genesis exhibition acquaints visitors with various aspects of synthetic biology.

Spaxels

Saturday, October 5, 2013 / 8-8:15 PM

This will probably be the year’s final formation flight over the Danube by the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s quadcopter swarm—weather permitting. Visitors standing in front of the Ars Electronica Center’s main entrance will have the best vantage-point view of the illuminated aerial extravaganza. That’s also the best spot to enjoy the musical accompaniment.

New York City in Fascinating Gigapixel Images
Saturday, October 5, 2013 / 10-10:30 PM

The AEC’s Deep Space will be screening five gigapixel images by prizewinning Austrian photographer Lois Lammerhuber—an extraordinary pan through America’s world-class metropolis.

Phone the Drone

A smartphone is all you need; remote-controlling a quadcopter is totally intuitive. Every move the cell phone makes is captured and imitated by the drone on its flight through the Lobby.
