The youth exchange project is a workshop that takes place with international groups of students in POSTCITY over the entire festival period. This year’s youth exchange project “Collective Smart TV” questions the formats and limits of traditional, old-fashioned TV.

Every year u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD invites 20 international students to spend five days at the Ars Electronica Festival, during which they can create a game, a film, a sound project or, like last year, an “unintelligent machine”.

All students are selected by our team as well as by our partner organisations abroad: c3 (HU), mb21 (DE), bugnplay (CH) and ArtTechLab (NL). The teenagers participating can be considered young experts amongst particular areas – may it be soldering, screwing, programming, designing, writing texts, generating concepts or painting. All together, there’s a good mix of skills.

This year’s youth exchange project is entitled “Collective Smart TV”. The idea is to raise doubts about formats and limits of traditional, old-fashioned TV by bringing together different ways of sharing video content and filming, editing, directing coding, and – most importantly – storytelling!

The goal of the five days is to develop an individual way of sharing stories by collecting existing concepts and finding fresh ideas. Along the way, the young experts will try and use different video formats, tools and channels to merge together our own hub of “Collective Smart TV”. Recordings will be done primarily by smartphones – let’s see where that leads us…
