Emojikken is an interactive installation that invites visitors to converse using only emoji, testing if the symbols can form the basis of a universal, cross-cultural, pictorial language. As the internet fosters greater creativity, emojis, like memes, have enabled post-language communication – but does that bring enhanced connection?
The piece – two emoji keyboards and a chat screen – was debuted for three weeks in Japan, home of the emoji, where it recorded over 10,000 interactions.
