The concept of expanded fashion research permits a shift of perspective to look beyond the fast fashion system to an approach that’s not yet marketable—rethinking the positioning of fashion as social, processual sculpture at the interface of technology and of art, and enabling it to manifest political, social and aesthetic forms. Evolving fashion design and production processes call for alternative formal and substantive design concepts, methodological strategies, and artistic, social and aesthetic work and design practices in order to meet new social challenges.
The host of the roundtable discussion & keynotes is the Austrian Center for Fashion Research (ACfFR), an interdisciplinary research facility financed by the Republic of Austria’s Federal Ministry of Digital and Economic Affairs.

Dobrila Denegri (IT/SB)
Dobrila Denegri is art historian and curator, born in Belgrade and based in Rome. Since 2002 she is artistic director of nKA / ICA an independent cultural association in Belgrade. From 2002 till 2008 she was curator at the MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome. From 2007 till 2009 she lectured on relations between art and fashion at “La Sapienza” University in Rome and since 2011 she is lecturing on the same subject at Polimoda in Florence. In the period between 2010 and 2015 she was artistic director of Centre of Contemporary Art in Torun (Poland). Since 2016 she is curator of international research platform “Transfashional” (www.transfashional.com). Her activity as curator and writer began in the 1990s; she has curated numerous group and solo exhibitions among which: Marina Abramovic, Thomas Bayrle, Michal Rovner, Alfredo Jaar, Gustav Metzger, Ernesto Neto, Thomas Saraceno, as well as workshops, panels, and lectures for public and private institutions internationally.
Currently she is professor at Polimoda (Florence) and independent curator.
Camille C. Baker (CA/UK)
Camille C. Baker Baker is an artist-performer/researcher/curator focussed on performance and emerging technologies, with emphasis on wearable technologies and mobile phones used as a performance tool and collaborator.
Baker is a Reader in Interface and Interaction, in the School of Communication Design at the University for the Creative Arts, Epsom, UK. She is also the PI for the EU funded WEAR Sustain and the newly funded STARTS Eco-system as part of the STARTS initiative.
She works within various media art forms: smart/e-textiles and wearable interfaces in performance and interactive art, AR/VR and mobile media in performance, and digital media curating. Her other research interests include: video art, live cinema, experience design, responsive interfaces and environments, media art installation, telematics, networked communities, web animation, singing and music performance. Baker explores new mechanisms to elicit engaging experiences using evolving approaches to participatory performance.
Maria Dada Bio (LB/UK)
Maria’s research is placed within the fields of design and material culture. She investigates the possibilities of digital materials in reconfiguring socio-political and economic structures. A PhD candidate in science and technology studies at Durham University she holds an MA from the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy and a BSc in Computing and Communication Arts from the Lebanese American University in Beirut. She also has ~10-years of experience as an interaction designer for Google, Abbey Road and Warp.net.

Andreas Spiegl (AT)
Dr. Andreas Spiegl studied art history at the University Vienna, Austria. He is teaching and researching at the Institute for Cultural Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna where he was also Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching from 2003 to 2011, since 2015 he is head of the Institute for Cultural Studies. He is mainly working on the intersection of media studies, subject theories and theories of space. He has published numerous texts on contemporary arts and cultural studies.
