Hubert Bognermayr. "THE ELECTRONIC FORESTER", born in Linz, Austria on April 4, 1948. Piano lessons at the Bruckner Conservatory. Studied pedagogics. Since 1968 engaged in electronic music.
1969 Foundation of the group "Eela Craig". The "symphonic rock-electronics" developed by him and Zuschrader becomes the trademark of the group. More than 250 concerts with his group, many of them in opera houses and theatres. Production of three LP's with his manager and producer Ulrich RÜTZEL.

Prof. D. Christof W. Burckhardt (born in 1927) studied physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. Having graduated from the University of Berne, he was with the Batelle Institute in Geneva from 1955 to 1965, then at the University of Illinois/USA, and from 1966 to 1970 he was Managing Director of Test AG in Geneva. Since 1970 Prof. Burckhardt has been head of the Institute for Precision Technology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne with the emphasis on industrial robots, sensor technology, and medical technology.

Dr. Mike Cooley is an unusual combination of active trade unionist, academic and technologist. He was the lay member National President of Britain's largest union for engineers, scientists, and technologists in 1971/72, He is currently Senior Fellow in the Faculty of Technology at the Open University, Visiting Senior Research Fellow at Manchester University in the Business School, and Voluntary Director of the CAITS project at the North East London Polytechnic. He has held seminars and Guest Professorships in Australia, the United States and throughout Europe and his work has been published in over 20 languages. Dr. Cooley has been a senior Design Engineer in the Aerospace Industry for some 20 years, and is an internationally recognized authority on human centred computer systems. He was Joint Winner of the 1981 alternative Nobel Prize for his work on socially useful technology including human enhancing computer based equipment.

Tom Darter. The Editor of US top-magazine "Keyboard Magazine" for electronic keyboard instruments, ranks among the leading keyboard players in the United States.
He enjoyed training as (classical) concert-pianist and early turned toelectronic keyboard instruments. He has specialized in computer-controlled synthesizers and live-performances of electronical music, as well as in the realization of computer-controlled synthesizer compositions.
Gerhard Dellmann, born 1954 in Berlin. Between 1974 and 1979 he published seven albums with "Satin Whale", since 1976 responsible for keyboards and electronical music at "FACHBLATT-Music Magazin", the leading special magazine in the German-speaking area.
1981 he publishes "Synthesizer—ein Handbuch fur Musiker".
Besides giving advices to his readers, his main task with "Fachblatt" is the discussion and critique of new keyboard-instruments of all kinds.

Hans Deyssenroth, born Jan. 29, 1937, studied Electrotechnique and Physics in Basel (Diploma). Working in industry as informatics expert. Jazz, rockjazz, freejazz musician.
Jean Pierre Dionnet, born in Paris in 1947, studies theology, law, literature, and journalism, after three years he interrupts his studies and turns to comic strips.
In 1968 he writes historical and critical texts on the unappreciated heroes of the American comic strip.
In 1969 he joins the staff of the journal "Pilote" and becomes a scenarist for comic strips.
In 1973 Jean Pierre Dionnet becomes literary director of the department "comic strips" at "Nathan", in 1974 he is nominated chief editor of the "L'Echo des Savanes" and towards the end of the same year he creates the magazine "Metal Hurlant" together with Druillet and Moebius. Meanwhile, "Métal Hurlant" has become known the world over—there are American, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, German and other editions. "Métal Hurlant" is the first comic strip magazine that has been turned into a film. "Métal Hurlant" has now become a publishing house "Les Humanoides Associés", publishing almost 100 titles per year.
In 1981, Jean Pierre Dionnet tries himself at a new line, he produces, authors and interprets together with Philippe Manoeuvre a TV rock-comics program entitled "The Impeccable".
At present, he is writing the second sequence of the American film "Heavy Metal 2", a science fiction cartoon with music by Paul McCartney.

Erika Gangl, born in Linz on October 19, 1939, dancer, choreographer, dance instructor, director of her LEHRANSTALT FÜR KONSTLERISCHEN TANZ UND TANZPÄDAGOGIK (School for Artistic Dance and Dance Instruction), main choreographer of the TANZTHEATER 46.
The all-round training that Erika Gangl had in Vienna, Munich, and Spain, resulted in her very own modern dancing technique which manifested itself in many choreographies. Alfred Peschek who introduced her to avant-garde music becomes her favourite composer.

Lorin Maazel is one of the leading conductors of our time. In his childhood already he had occasionally conducted orchestras (Toscanini, for instance, had asked him to conduct his famous NBC Orchestra, and at the age of 13, he took the baton of the Cleveland Orchestra for the first time), but he himself calls December 24, 1953 the day of his debut in Italy, the actual beginning of his artistic career.
Born to American parents in Paris in 1930, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh /USA at the age of 16. Besides music, he studied languages, mathematics, and philosphy; as a student he was violinist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and its occasional conductor; he founded the "Fine Arts Quartet of Pittsburgh''.
On a Fulbright scholarship he could pursue his studies of music in Italy in 1951. Only a few years later, Lorin Maazel can be found as a conductor of the prominent European orchestras. In 1960, at the age of only 30, he is the first American and at the same time, the youngest conductor of the Bayreuth Festival. For a period of ten years, he was Managing Director of both the German Opera Berlin and the Berlin Radio-Symphony Orchestra. He was decorated with the "GroBes Bundesverdienstkreuz" (Distinguished Service Cross of the Federal Republic of Germany) for his great attributions to German musical life.
He has appeared as a guest conductor at numerous festivals and opera houses such as: Salzburg, Edinburgh, Luzern, the Metropolitan Opera, New York, La Scala of Milan the Paris Opera, and London's Covent Garden Opera. Every leading orchestra in the world is happy to have him as guest conductor any time.
Besides being Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra, Lorin Maazel held the position of a "Principal Guest Conductor" with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France in Paris. The more than 150 gramophone records that have been awarded a number of prizes, and his many television appearances have made him one of the most popular personages of today's musical life.

Richard Pittman is the founder-conductor of The Boston Musica Viva, is Orchestra Conductor and the teacher of Orchestral Conducting at the New England Conservatory of Music. He has guest conducted the National Symphony, the London Sinfonietta, the Hessian Radio Symphony and the B.B.C. Welsh Symphony. He has also conducted performances with the Eric Hawkins Dance Company. Prior to his appointment at the new England Conservatory, Mr. Pittman was an instructor of conducting and opera at the Eastman School of Music. While there he was also the founder-director of the Eastman Musica Nova. He studies conducting with Laszlo Halasz, Sergiu Celibidache, and Pierre Boulez.

Dr. Winfried Schenk (born in 1944) studied political science at the University of Vienna majoring in economic subjects and in 1974 he graduated with a thesis on "Models for the Diffusion of Technological Progress". From 1970 to 1981 he worked as an industrial consultant for the Austrian Institute of Economic Research in Vienna. In 1981 he was Visiting Fellow with the Science Policy Research Unit of the University of Sussex.
Main areas of work: empirical industrial economy, diffusion of new technologies, employment effects of technological progress, economic aspects of microelectronics, topics of technology and innovation policy. Hartmut Schönherr, born in Staffort (Germany) on November 7, 1952. Joined the TANZTHEATER 46 in 1982. Influenced by the dancing of the Sufis (visited Asia in 1973), by the Grotowski-group (Göttingen 1975/76), by the performance ARGE Juennagrad (Carinthia 1976). Solo performances: 1978 Freiburg, 1980 Venice, 1980 Cologne, 1981 Siena, 1981 and 1982 Salzburg.
Dr.-Ing. Rolf Dieter Schraft (born in Stuttgart in 1942) studied mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart and graduated there in 1976 with a thesis on "Systematic Selection and Design of Programmable Manipulating Equipment". Since 1969 he has worked for the Institut für Produktionstechnik und Automatisierung (IPA -Institute for Production Technology and Automation) of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Stuttgart and has been its Deputy Director since 1976. Dr. Schraft also lectures on automation technology at the Universities of Stuttgart and Dortmund.

Peter Sommerfeld, born in Scheibbs (Lower Austria) on August 26, 1960. Joined the TANZTHEATER 46 in 1982. Has studied musicology, harpsicord, dancing since 1979. Founder of group for historical dance in Salzburg. Traces and presents historical dance.
Bruno Spoerri, born in Zurich in 1935, founded his own jazz orchestra in 1952, first prize at the Zurich Jazz Festival for saxophone and orchestra in 1954, a number of awards in the subsequent years, like prizes from the Jazz Festival in Dusseldorf and Zurich. Completed his studies of psychology in 1960, worked as a psychologist for some years, since 1970 free-lance composer, arranger and specialist of electronic music, composed and realized a number of soundtracks for movies and TV spots in his own electronics studio. 1979: musical "Robinson'', lyrics by Cesar Keiser. Special interest in wind instruments and electronics, 1979: "Grand Prize" of Ars Electronica '79. Joined the music computer team "Elektronisches Försterhaus" (Linz), worked on computer-acoustic music with this team and will be soloist in the premiere of the First Computer-Acoustic Sound Symphony ERDENKLANG. Bruno Spoerri has initiated the Swiss Society into Computer-Acoustics. Has produced 11 LP's since 1970.
Ivan Tcherepnin, born in Paris in 1943. Early piano lessons and composition studies with his father Alexander. After graduation from Harvard he worked with Karlheinz Stockhausen and studied conducting under Pierre Boulez. Since 1972 Ass. Professor at Harvard University. His compositions were published by Schott (Mainz), M. P. Belaieff (Frankfurt) and C. F. Peters (New York), his music was recorded for Nonesuch and CRI.
Isao Tomita. The world famous greatest synthesist, Isao Tomita was born in Tokyo in 1932. He studied music under the composers Kishio Hirao and Kojiro Kubone while he was at the Keio University. He started his activity as a composer during his school days and wrote excellent music for motion pictures and television programs.
But the work which spread his name throughout the world conclusively was his first album by synthesizers entitled "SNOWFLAKES ARE DANCING", a world of fairy tales from Debussy's compositions. This album was first released in the United States in 1974 and became a great sensation immediately. The synthesizer music at that time, represented by "Switched On Bach'' had a narrow, mechanical and thin sound, and people were losing interest in it. On the other hand, Tomita's work, with its thickness in sounds, its careful constitution and coloring, its expression and deep depth, exceeded the usual synthesizer music overwhelmingly. The world was astonished at the broader expression of his work to which no orchestra could oppose. In 1975, the year following its release, this album was nominated for "Album of the Year" and in three other categories of the Grammy Awards. It was the first time that a Japanese had been nominated. In addition, it was selected as the "Best Classical Record of 1974" by N.A.R.M. (National Association of Record Merchandisers), the most important award for record sales in the United States.
After that he made hits in succession and his status was firmly established: ''PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION" received N.A.R.M.'s the "Best Classical Record of 1975" and an award for the planning of the album at the Japanese Record Grand Prix in 1975. Then he released "FIREBIRD" also in 1975 and it scored another success.
In addition to being supported by classical music fans, he become idolized among rock musicians. As a matter of fact, many rock musicians coming to Japan visited his studio.
"PLANETS'' released in 1977 became his biggest hit. This work composed by the modern British composer Gustav Holstwas arranged for synthesizer by Tomita. It was a space drama on a magnificent scale that began with a blast sound of a rocket and gave listeners the feeling of searching a planet in a space ship. This album was ranked the top position in the United States classical record charts (Billboard and Cash Box magazines) for the second time, following "PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION''. This record should be called the masterpiece of the world-shocking space sounds of Tomita, and the special recording effect named "Biphonic Sound" enabled listeners to hear sounds even from outside of the speakers. It became a topic.
After ''PLANETS", two space music albums entitled "KOSMOS'' (1978) and ''BERMUDA TRIANGLE'' (1978) were released, and these formed a trilogy of space sounds. With "BERMUDA TRIANGLE'' Tomitas experimented with the new technique of mixing the sound in not only an horizontal dirction but also a vertical one. This album was nominated in the category of the "Best Engineered Record Classics" of the Grammy Award (the second time for him) in 1979.
Then he released "DAPHNIS ET CHLOE" in 1979 after the space trilogy. This was the album that brushed up the illusional sounds and the brilliant beauty in color much more than those in his first album of Debussy. This album guided the listeners into a fantastic dream world. In this year, the readers of the American ''Contemporary Keyboard'' Magazine voted him the ''Best Studio Synthesist" for his distinguished services so far.
That is a sketch of Isao Tomita's life in record business. His records are sold not only in Japan and the United States but also almost all over the world. All of them have made big hits and received many awards and/or prizes everywhere in the world. He has sold over one million LP's in Japan. The most remarkable thing is that he has created all the sounds in his symphonic synthesizer music by himself. This is apt to be overlooked.
Besides the work for synthesizers, he composed music for grand television dramas, broadcast for a year, such as "Hanano Shogai'' (1960), "Ten-to Chi-to" (1969), "Shin Heke Monogratan" (1972), and "Katsu Kaishu'' (1974). He wrote the opening and closing music for television programs such as "Shin-Nihon Kilko", "Gendaino Eizp'', and "Kaikyo". He also composed for the motion pictures "Senya Ichiya Monogatari", "Kga Kaikyo", and "Nosutradams-no Daiyogen". He received a Television Grand Prix in 1974 for his contribution to television culture.
Taizo Ueda graduated from the Osaka University of Commerce in 1953.
From 1962 to 1966 he was Administrative Manager of Honda Motor Co. in Belgium. He has held positions as General Manager of the export, parts and components, car marketing, and public relations divisions, having served several years with each division respectively. He also edited "Business and Society in Japan", published by Praeger Publishing Co., New York.
He is now the Managing Director of the Honda Foundation, Tokyo.

Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra was founded on March 28, 1842. On that day, the "Orchestra Personnel of the Imperial Court Operahouse'' gave its first symphonic concert, conducted by Otto Nicolai, assistant conductor at the Vienna Court Opera. This historic day, commemorated annually in the ''Nicolai Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra", set a new line for the musical life of Vienna and all of Europe. The Vienna Philharmonic has not swerved from the course it decided to take 140 years ago. In 1860, the so-called ''Philharmonic Subscription Concerts' were introduced, conducted finally by Otto Dessoff. From 1870 up to now, these Philharmonic Supscription Concerts have been given in the Main "Golden" Hall of the Musikverein. In 1875, Hans Richter became Principal Conductor of the orchestra, he was succeeded by Gustav Mahler in 1898. Gustav Mahler was Director of the Operahouse up to 1908, and Artistic Director of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra till 1901, but he continued to conduct Philharmonic Subscription Concerts after that date. Further conductors of this period were Hellmesberger, Schuch, Mottl, Schalk, Muck, Nikisch and Richard Strauss. In 1908, Felix von Weingartner was elected Principal Conductor by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He held that office until 1927. In 1927, Wilhelm Furtwangler was asked to take over in the direction of this orchestra.
Some famous contemporaries to direct the orchestra were Bruno Walter, Arturo Toscanini, Victor de Sabata and others.
Since World War II, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has worked with the world's greatest conductors: Clemens Krauss, Hans Knappertbusch, Karl Böhm, Herbert von Karajan, Dimitri Mitropoulos, George Szell, Otto Klemperer, Leonard Bernstein to name but a few.

Univ. Prof. Dipl. Ing. Dr. Josef W. Wohinz (born in 1943) completed his studies of industrial and mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Graz. From 1965 to 1973, he was scientific assistant at the Institute for Industrial Economics and Industrial Sociology (Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Max Pietsch). During this time graduation (degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences) and habilitation for Industrial Engineering. From 1973 to 1979 he worked in industry, finally as department manager for Technical Efficiency and Organization with a multi-national electronics company in Vienna.
Since 1979 he has been professor for Industrial Management and Innovation Research at the Technical University of Graz. Both his teaching and research work stress general questions of industrial management and successful realization of industrial innovation projects. His main concern is how to overcome the discrepancies between theoretically established findings and practice-oriented implementation.
Univ. Prof. Dipl. Ing. Dr. Franz Wojda (born in 1939) studied mechanical and industrial engineering at the Technical University of Vienna. In 1965, Wojda was employed with PHILIPS, then until 1973 was assistant professor at the Institute for Work Sciences of the Technical University of Vienna. He graduated and habilitated there, worked on various research projects and was a consultant for industry and commerce. He travelled extensively in Europe and the USA.
Since 1974, managing director of AGIPLAN Planning Corporation Ltd., Vienna, responsible for planning and consulting of projects with regards to organizational and EDP questions, overall planning of industrial plants (production units, stores, offices), project management of complex projects. Since September 1975, head of the Institute for Work Sciences at the Technical University of Vienna, which was enlarged to the Institute for Work Sciences and Industrial Engineering in 1980. Wojda is also in charge of the interdisciplinary research program of the Funds for the Promotion of Scientific Research in Austria under the title of "Work Organization: Human Centred Working Enviroment".
