HONORARY MENTION
KaspaH's Home
Catherine de Courten
Catherine de Courten (CH), born 1963. Graduated from the Höhere Schule für Gestaltung, Basel, with a teacher's diploma for fine arts. Member of the Telematic Workgroup at HfbK. The project "KaspaH" was presented on "MS Stubnitz" in St. Petersburg in July 1994 and during the IFIP '94 in Hamburg; construction of a "Virtual Congress" for 3 Interface, 1995.
As a construction, "KaspaH" separates existence within the world of the Net from our ordinary experiences outside the Net. Apparently familiar relations from other realities are transformed and re-generated in the computer network. The inner core is found in the symmetrical relationship from person to person.
In May 1994, KaspaH addressed about 50 artists on the Internet. Questions reflecting an attitude of openness in an uncertain situation: out of KaspaH's request for help - his first form of contact - a conversational figure was developed that has been continued up to the present.
These personal discussions have been expanded in "KaspaH's Home" into a semi-official space: visitors may look into closed conversations that are chronologically structured.
People who want to participate may contact the e-mail addresses. KaspaH's electronic salon calls for a sense of obligation in relationships that are established exclusively on the Net. My experiences, expectations and opportunities for action in an electronic dialogue have developed along with KaspaH, which is a figure that defines itself within the Net.
KaspaH confuses me: on the friction surface between me and him, there are questions posed about Network communication, theses develop, that KaspaH introduces into his conversations und attempts to elucidate with others.
