MEDIALAB is one of the European leaders in the production of digital imagery, as well as one of the worldwide leaders in live performance animation and virtual reality systems. Agolo" in Fon language means "move out, make room" and announces the coming of a voodoo spirit. Agolo, the song, is a celebration of Mother Earth. It is a song of hope, a call to the good powers of nature and more particularly to Aidohouédo, the great rainbow snake, the messenger of love and tenderness who coils around the four cardinal points.

The main idea of the video is to hold fast to the ancient voodoo myths which are the soul of the Benin and the main suggestion of the music made by Angélique Kidjo. Our aim will be to transcribe those myths in a visual, new and very modern way without misrepresenting them.

This transcription will succeed through a choreography made of traditional steps used in celebrations, and a strong use of visual symbols, all taken from "Fa", a system of divination comparable with the Yijing and which is the key of the whole of voodoo cosmogony. The main element of the video is a big golden circle representing in a stylised way a snake who bites its own tail. Animated by a slow movement of rotation on itself, it will be the link between the sequences and will step in all the settings as a recurrent leitmotive. It will create the principle of a rotary mot/on that will be exploited in the camera movements and in the choreography and will characterize very strongly the video. At the key moments of the music, some fantastic masked figures and big turning tops (the ghosts) will appear. The “rainbow snake” itself will be staged, flying with its shining metallic body over the heads of the dancers in trance.

Going in crescendo, the video will end with a great golden mandala composed of concentric and worked circles, multiplied golden dancers and symbolic animated elements: a barbaric and fantastic icon slowly turning itself and in the center of which is the singer as the convergent point of all geometries.
