HONORARY MENTION
Sheer Hellish Miasma
Kevin Drumm

Employing guitar, tapes, mics, pedals, analogue synthesizer and some computer assistance, Sheer Hellish Miasma is a sonic beast comprising two extended tracks bookended by shorter works. Like the churning output of heavy metal’s distorted overdrive, this CD takes on an intense journey of wailing feedback, chaotic audio and radical processing. The extreme end of power electronics is present throughout much of Drumm’s first full-length recording for Austria’s entirely appropriate Mego label.

The two centerpieces of Sheer Hellish Miasma encapsulate this record’s aesthetic core: "Hitting the Pavement" is a twenty minute blizzard-like drone, while the 24-minute epic "Inferno" overwhelms the listener with a hail of torrential electronics, jackhammer sinewaves and general "evil" disguised as "music".
