HONORARY MENTION
Sweet Extreme
Joey Lessard

What has most fascinated me about working with computer-supported 30 animation from the beginning is special effects and the animation of human figures. For that reason, I have attempted to combine these two elements in the expose of my short animated film Sweet Extreme. The fact that animating realistic human figures represents a special challenge made my work even more interesting and motivating.

By choosing a skier in action, I was able to achieve my most important goal, which was the creation of flowing movements as close as possible to real movements. The most difficult aspect of this was the implementation of the movements associated with effort, such as pushing off at the start, jumps, landings and swings to break. The next challenge was to have the figure interact with its surroundings. In this interaction, the special effects-for instance the snow flying around the skis and the ski poles, but also the tracks that the skis leave in the snow - are linked with the skier's movements, so that it all seems much more realistic. The twilight additionally emphasizes the over-sized surroundings, which makes the work more interesting.
Sweet Extreme is intended to be a creative mixture of realism and fiction leaving enough room for imagination -the only thing missing is the cherry on top of the ice cream!
