HONORARY MENTION
Musca domestica
Denis Bivour
The film tells the old story of David against Goliath. Yet the end is neither black nor white, but somewhere in between. The main characters are an ordinary housefly (Musca domestica) and a person at a kitchen table. The person kills the fly and then eats the bread, in which the fly has just laid its eggs. It is left up to the audience to decide, who is the winner and who the loser.
3D animation was not used here for its own sake, but rather was intended to become integrated into a separate filmic aesthetic that was predetermined by the real video sequences. In order to avoid having the computer generated sequences become obtrusive, I refrained from an exaggerated characterization of the fly and concentrated on its true, realistic behavior. The technical production of the film had to be accomplished with minimal means. Modelling, animation and rendering were done on a 604 200MHz MAC within a period of about three months.
