HONORARY MENTION
Chicken Supper
Zach Bell, Chris Gallagher , Steven Schweickart , Scott Smith

The first step in the creating, Chicken Supper, was to travel to Tarn pa, Florida and capture footage of Scan Schweickart. Sean is a thirty seven year old man with Down syndrome. We chose Sean as the leading character for the piece, because he has proven to be a great inspiration in both his nephew, Steven, who is a member of this project, and those he encounters by the way he lives his life. Amidst all his disavantages he still remains positive and finds joy in things the common person would find to be trivial. This makes him the perfect candidate. While visiting with Sean we set up a series of interviews. This piece, as it stands now, is a work in progress.

In the final version we will have slower moving, more realistic clouds and animated texture maps along each line of film. We will also add the final scenes that we had to leave out due to running out of time. The idea of this piece is that you, the viewer, are floating to these vast levels of hanging film and learning about the life of this particular man. Each filmstrip represents a period of Sean's life. As you get closer, the once still image of the frame comes to life and plays out a video sequence ofthat particular event. In some instances the viewer will pass directly through the frame of film like a ghost passing through a wall. Ascending higher and higher we gaze upon Sean's life and in the end reflect on our own. Another way to view the piece is to take it from the understanding that Sean has passed away and is rising to heaven. In his ascension he reflects on his life. This is seen from the hanging film and the audio clips that have been mixed with the background music. Higher and higher he rises and he sees himself as one not with regrets, but full of inner peace and joy. Finally in the end he rises above the lines of film and looks down upon them one last time and then moves on. Please understand that Sean is still alive, but considering that the life expectancy of someone with Down syndrome is forty, he may not be with us much longer.
