HONORARY MENTION
Stationen
Christian Sawade-Meyer

In recent years I have come to realize how much people differ in the ways they think and that these differences increase with age. It is difficult to keep one’s own goal in mind, which is itself only vaguely defined. One seeks the path to contentment and personal recognition.

One loses a great deal of energy along the way, because the surroundings constantly exercise influence and perspectives are often blocked. Preserving and successfully maintaining imagination and visions is a tedious task in this environment that is stuck in a rut.

The film shows an emotional segment of this path with the possible ending that the desired goal is not quite attained and one loses one’s energy. I have not reprogrammed the 3D Studio. I have used the available techniques simply to tell this story.

The look is most important to me, and I have tried to avoid typical 3D aesthetics.

The odyssey of life through a monotonous, hardly fertile world with its misleading influences. A creature, dragging a full crate of plants behind it, makes its way through an expansive wasteland.

The strange creature hopefully digs a hole for a plant in the ground. Here is where the plants carried in the crate are to flourish. As soon as the second plant is in its place in the much too barren ground, the first surrenders to the dryness and wilts. Feeling desperate and helpless, the creature must give up the second plant as well. A glance at the horizon shows nothing but wasteland far and wide.

Nevertheless, it goes on, dragging the crate behind, aimless but still hopeful. Lost in thought, the strange creature tramples over a decayed signpost. Suddenly it discovers another sign in the distance. With renewed hope, it heads for this sign and finds itself facing a forest full of signs. Instead of finding a path, though, it seems more in danger of losing its orientation completely among all the confusing signposts.

Finally, unnerved it pushes the signs away furiously. Thrashing and running, it pushes a path through the confusion. With a loud scream it falls to the ground, having tripped over a large rock. As it comes to again, it realizes it has found something important—a bubbling spring of water. Hope!
