HONORARY MENTION
No Way
Geoffrey Guiot, Bruno Lardé
, Jérome Maillot
In the fourth year of computer graphics studies at the Supinfocom the students are required to realize a film of several minutes in length using computer generated images.
Geoffrey Guiot had already thought of a story the year before, which centered around the idea of having real people act in a computer generated environment.
He was soon joined by Bruno Lardé and Jerôme Maillot (who was responsible for the postapocalyptic atmosphere), and the team was complete.
The three started working in September 1997 and were soon granted permission to skip lectures. They met at Bruno’s, where they had gathered their computers.
Geoffrey, who had already done several videos with Nicolas Carsel, brought him to the team to ensure the continuity of dialogue in the story.
Geoffrey was also the one who took care of all the filming. In addition, he made arrangements with the small community in the north of France, where he was living at the time, to let them use the community’s multipurpose hall.
Work continued until June 1998. The filming, done with Hi8,was done parallel to montage. The team only had very limited resources available to them; they had no blue box, in particular, so extracting the images was very time-consuming.
When the work was presented to a jury of professors and professionals, it was awarded the highest marks and especially captured the attention of Emmanuel Prevost, the producer at Gaumont Multimedia. He was willing to produce the film, which had started as a video, and take it into cinema distribution.
During the summer and fall of 1998 Geoffrey and Emmanuel have been working on adapting the film for this purpose.
