Otorhinolaryngology (Application)Concept: Simulation models in virtual space on the basis of real medical data—Ars Electronica Futurelab staffers have been working together with physicians, computer programmers, physicists and specialists in mechatronics to produce a visualization that simulates a journey into the inner recesses of the ear. The 4D Visualization Laboratory in Innsbruck headed by Prof. Wolfgang Freysinger has been working on visualizations for medical purposes for many years, above all in the field of otorhinolaryngology, the branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the ear, nose and throat (ENT). This project was carried out on the basis of actual patient data and supervised by Dr. Florian Kral, junior staff physician in the Clinical Department of ENT at the University of Innsbruck Medical School. The result of this collaboration involving specialists in a number of different scientific fields is a visualization of medical data set within a virtual, multi-user environment. |
