Homesick - Susanne Thurner
Nana Susanne Thurner
Homesick
“Homesick” consists of hand-drawn pictures photographed in front of real-life backgrounds. Nana Susanne Thurner then used After Effects to assemble the images into an animated film. “Homesick” tells the story of a little girl who’s shocked by an argument between her parents. She seeks refuge in the room of her sister, whose saxophone playing calms her down and lulls her to sleep. The first scene of this narrative is all that’s been completed so far. We’re really looking forward to the next installment.

eEx Network Discovery
“eEx Network Discovery” is a program that lets users create graphical depictions of computer networks and store these images to memory. The program ascertains which processors are communicating via which connections, and uses this information to visually represent these data flows. The result is a network map that clearly portrays communications pathways and linkups, and represents the underlying structures in a way that’s clear and simple enough for laypeople to grasp.

uterus = raum= universum
uterus = raum = universum” (uterus = space = universe) is an artistic film by 19-year-old Susanne Legerer. Ultrasound imaging makes it possible to depict the uterus in a way that reveals all of its complexity, its dimensions, its transparencies and its outer limits. The film “uterus = raum = universum” is a research project that seeks to fathom analogies between this microcosm and the whole universe. The uterus, a female transformation space highly charged with social significance, is seen as a reflection of outer space. The soundtrack consists of pure tones (sinusoidal wave shape) that make the dimensions of the microcosm and macrocosm audible.

Koyangi
http://selina.dalcomie.net

The “Koyangi” homepage has been online since July 2006. Koyangi is the Korean word for cat. Selina Fanninger chose this name for the simple reason that she likes cats and words that begin with K. Prior to “Koyangi,” she developed several other homepages, such as Morgennebel (Morning Fog; 2003-2006), a bilingual (German-English) site. She’s been pursuing this activity since she was 6. Her homepages enable her to present her highly imaginative drawings to an international audience.

Muster Machen Mutig Projekt m3
This project’s point of departure is the fact that decisions such as those involving urban planning are often made without consulting children. Now, “The m3 Project” (Muster Machen Mutig, Patterns Make You Courageous) gives city kids the opportunity to call attention to themselves and their needs via art and architecture. Here, digital distortion of reality opens up new possibilities. The project’s aims include fostering creativity and aesthetic skills (graphic design, arts & crafts), teaching three-dimensional thinking, and developing abilities to conceptualize our constructed environment.

a beautiful lie
A whole tube of glue and about a kilo of colored paper are what these two producers needed to create the figures and “stage sets” of their animated work. The title “A Beautiful Lie” was taken from the song of the same name by the band “30 Seconds to Mars” which they had planned to use during the final credits. The film deals with Feety and his best girlfriend N'emo. At a concert, they both fall in love with Kaeksi. When Feety and Kaeksi become a couple, it breaks N’emo’s heart. In the concert hall’s WC, Feety finds the two. It causes him so much pain that his heart falls out.

Mr. Orange
Mr. Orange is the latest cartoon by Tarek Khalifa; he made it using Macromedia Flash. At first, he wanted to create a cartoon about tiny blue blobs, but then he changed his mind because it seemed too dreary and boring. He needed another character, which is how Mr. Orange was born. Blue and orange simply make for a cool color combination, one that imparts just the right amount of tension to this little film.

Lanpe - feel informized
Sitting in front of the PC is passé. The “Lanpe” (tablelamp) can get connected to the Internet via wireless LAN and check e-mail accounts for new messages, monitor stock prices, function as an alarm clock, and turn on a coffee machine via e-mail. As the desired alerts, the user can choose from among a variety of different signaling modes (flashing light, steadily glowing light, etc.) and colors (red, yellow or green) and also hook up to a conventional electrical outlet.

Roller Coaster 360
http://www.northwindent.com/Rollercoaster360.zip

“Roller Coaster 360” is a computer game developed for XBox 360 and Windows. The player steers a roller coaster car, a tough assignment that calls for quick reflexes and sharp powers of observation. To arrive safe and sound at the end of the ride, you have to overcome diverse obstacles, various opponents (who can be terminated with a laser weapon), abysses, exploding barrels and level-end bosses.

littleRunner
“littleRunner” is a 2D jump-’n’-run game that includes a home-brew game editor. The action figure—Tux the Penguin, the Linux mascot—is sent through the game’s respective levels via keyboard commands. The principle of play in “littleRunner” is derived in part from Super Mario. Andreas Gerstmayr wrote his game in C# and, in doing so, placed great emphasis on object-oriented programming (OOP). He used Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition as his integrated development environment (IDE).

Gewand und Glaube
http://home.eduhi.at/webs/j/default.html

“Gewand und Glaube” (Clothing and Faith) is a multicultural knowledge portal in the form of an interactive crossword puzzle. These students’ aim is to shed light on the role of women in the world’s major religions by considering the formation of women’s networks designed to manage practical aspects of everyday life. The “Gewand und Glaube” website was developed in a “Visual Design – New Media” class; the content was generated in conjunction with religious instruction at the school. The idea of a broad-based link-up of the various approaches to and interconnections among these highly diverse topics was then implemented using text-based content and visual imagery.
Simon Groihofer
fischtraum:(a
The computer-generated images in “fischtraum:(a” are about as far from realistic depictions as you can get. They’re more like snapshots of a dreamland. This is meant to enable everyone who views it to identify with particular scenes and thereby to experience a dream in a conscious state. The intention is for viewers to be able to recognize a “dream logic” that links together these strange happenings. Simon Groihofer created the 3D models and animated sequences with Anim8or, which can’t produce photo-realistic images but does make it possible to quickly implement ideas.
Christopher Sax
Robo
The “Robo” project was launched in a physics class just a few weeks prior to the Prix Ars Electronica deadline and arrived on the absolutely last day for entrants to submit their work. The assignment: to construct a fully functional robot capable of independently navigating towards a light source. The challenge: to do it without the use of a commercially available robot kit. Christopher Sax utilized an aluminum chassis, drilled the holes himself and custom crafted the individual body parts. In building his first robot, he had to deal with a whole series of headaches ranging from faulty wiring to microcontroller programming errors.

It’s always been Manuel Löw-Beer’s dream to be the CEO of his own company. Its motto: “Your problems—our mission!” What’s emerged from this is the idea behind “LB-SOFT 12,” a software package designed to provide users with competence and some fun to boot. Which explains its subdivision into Works and Games. “LB-SOFT 12” brings together all the knowledge Manuel has gathered to date in the fields of business and computer game programming.
