This installation illustrates the concept of Augmented Reality and offers users the opportunity to playfully explore it.
Aussichtsposten (vantage points) provide a view of a parallel digital world in which the real environment is overlaid with information and virtual creatures. Serving as windows revealing a view of this dimension are panning monitors that display the field of vision of the viewers looking in the direction of the monitors’ screens. Digital material (which is invisible to all other viewers) is integrated into these video images.
This augmented reality approach illustrates the potential of a technology that is increasingly being used in industrial fields but has not broken through into the consumer electronics sector yet. Its applications range from a mobile information system for tourists to computer games played against virtual opponents in real space.
