--------------------------------------------------------- ARS ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL 99 LIFESCIENCE Linz, Austria, September 04 - 09 http://www.aec.at/lifescience --------------------------------------------------------- In einer eMail vom 12.05.99 17:35:14 MEZ, schreiben Sie: Thema: [Fake_Life [{Strings}}] Datum: 12.05.99 17:35:14 MEZ From: rdom@thing.net (ricardo dominguez) Reply-to: rdom@thing.net To: lifescience@aec.at (life) *Culture has given up on the real, but science pursues the realization of the artificial with the pervert^Òs obsessive zeal.* --Iain Hamilton Grant, (At the Mountains of Madness). Bio_informatics is in the process of colonizing the last strings of life-^Ñthe artificial^Ò. The bio_artifact is now the location of a new order of bi-product and exchange where all cells are for sale. Life becomes an artificial condition driven forward by the systemic prejudices of molecular biology. It is within this cultural petri dish that Fakeshop in June 1998 intiatited a Fake_laboratory frame with it^Òs performative staging of an event entitled *Multiple Dwellings*. A series of Fake_research events have since gathered together a multi_zone network of bio_representation_investigators: Jeff Gompretz, Eugene Thacker, Diane Ludin, Ricardo Dominguez and Prema Murthy. Fake_life experiments have been performed and interstaged between several bio_exchange networks: performance events, CUseeme, synchronous chat, realaudio/video, HTML and javascript based presentations and research. Each Fake_Experiment reiterates the process of analysis as it moves between the various conditions.
