--------------------------------------------------------- ARS ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL 99 LIFESCIENCE Linz, Austria, September 04 - 09 http://www.aec.at/lifescience --------------------------------------------------------- Hi again to the remaining protagonists. Finally I have stopped my travelling and am situated in Austria ready for September in Linz. I must say that I am a bit amused by the separation of sexes in the gene discussion. Smacks a bit of 70's feminist paranoia etc. The advances in this research is not being undertaken by zealous males bent on the everlasting control of the species and hence the female domination intoned by some of these people's comments. Get a grip people, my female companion, lover and friend is a neurologist and specialises in research within those paramaters. Many of our friends include doctors, surgeons and scientists and I must say that the picture sometimes portrayed in this forum is nothing short of purile fantasy and ignorance uttered by lame brainers. I myself work closely with media and in that capacity I feel that there is a very indolent streak running amongst some of you and it needs be said that although 'think-tanking' is a fine pursuit, it becomes nothing short of intelectual masturbation when allowed to displace obvious reality and commonsense with the matter 'invented'. On the other hand some contributors are really enjoyable to read and it has been fun lurking while on the road. If I can contribute soemething now it is to say that I am very at peace with the eventual change (positive or otherwise) when it comes. I am sure I will contribute to the evolution like all others, as we do daily. Some of us actually have to work to put food in children's bellies. Now that is a reality. Every time I see their smiles I can see a light that no intellectual or scientific Frankenstein theory will ever kill. You see I am an optimist and that is something, I hope , some of you other science and geek junkies can share. If I receive another rebuke from the Prof for not being this or that in her very humble opinion ,then that is as it may be, but has very little bearing on anything. I wish you all a very pleasant day. __________________________________________________________________ Get your free Australian email account at http://www.start.com.au/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are subscribed to the English language version of LIFESCIENCE To unsubscribe the English language version send mail to lifescience-en-request@aec.at (message text 'unsubscribe') Send contributions to lifescience@aec.at --------------------------------------------------------------------------
