exhibition: Imagining Antarctica

The exhibition "ANTARCTICA" has assembled artists and scientists from all over the world for a unique show presenting this distant wilderness metaphorically and actually. This exhibition will have its world premiere under the auspices of Ars Electronica 1986 in Linz.

"ANTARCTICA" presents pictures, drawings, photographs, autographs, computer graphics, video and audio contributions by excellent artists from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Denmark, England, the Federal Republic of Germany, France, Israel, Poland, Spain, and the United States.

It includes a separate show of Antarctic science documenting and explaining the major fields of research like the aurora Australis, glaciology, phenomena of the higher and lower atmosphere, oceanic biology, and cartography. In the confrontation of these artistic and scientific exhibits, "ANTARCTICA" presents a picture of that continent demonstrating both the scientific and technological significance of this region and its outstanding beauty.
