Committee 2000

September 26,1982, 6.00 a.m.—12.00 p.m.

"Ö3-2000" – ONE DAY OF RADIO PROGRAM-STATION ÖSTERREICH 3 OF THE AUSTRIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION, IN THE CONTEXT OF ARS ELECTRONICA
"Ö3-2000"—One Day in the Year 2000—is an attempt to envisage life in the year 2000. Corresponding to the projections of futurologists, one day of the year 2000 will be covered on the radio with fictitious "live-spots" and short radioplays and commentaries on this vision.

"Ö3-2000" is the dramatized combination of various blueprints of the future, it does not advocate one specific theory. "Ö3—2000" does not aspire completeness, it much rather wants to tackle questions of the future playfully and thus stimulate the listener to take up the challenge of the future personally.

In a round-table conference, artists, scientists and politicians will take up discussion of these models with listeners phoning in. In close collaboration with the departments of information, religion, and family of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation and its Regional Studio for Upper Austria, station 0 3 will present a picture of September 26, 2000 according to present forecasts of the near future—a vision that might come true …

This concept Ö3—2000 was created in collaboration with the "Committee 2000", a club dedicated to the year 2000.
COMMITTEE 2000 - THE FUTURE HAS ONCE AGAIN A FUTURE.
8389 days before the year 2000, seven men come together in Munich. They share an unusual characteristic: each looks upon the future with great enthusiasm and optimism.

To give this exuberance its proper due, they founded the Committee 2000. Its goal: replacing the worldwide Nostradamus Syndrome—in other words fear of the future—with a positive outlook.

First item in the agenda: a huge party for a few billion people.

Time: the forthcoming millennium.

8282 days before the year 2000 the public-spirited association Committee 2000 e. V. is entered at the registrator's office in the city court of Munich and receives the official number 9022.
THE YEAR 2000 IS THERE FOR EVERYONE.
8210 days before the year 2000 the Committee 2000 reserves rights for satellite transmission of TV broadcasts on New Years Eve 12-31-1999 and New Years Day 1-1-2000 in the year 2000.

The celebration at the turn of the millennium shall be a world-wide telecast shared by all mankind. Simultaneously the Committee 2000 has received option bookings for the largest convention halls on every continent.

After telecasts about the Committee 2000, seen in Holland, Germany and France, in Hungary, Poland and Yugoslavia, viewers from East and West express an interest in becoming active members.

In Singapore and in Hongkong a newspaper report on the activities of the Committee 2000 causes numerous inquiries. In Tokyo futurologist Yujiro Hayashi indicates his support.

In New York the "Committee 2000 Ltd." is constituted to organize the Committee's activities in the New World.
THE TWO FACES OF THE COMMITTEE 2000
The most widely read European newsweekly "Der Spiegel" reports that the Committee 2000 is split up into two different camps: a Rothschildian and a Marxist (A la Groucho). While the Rothschildians realistically orient themselves to economic considerations, the Marxists are dedicated to the humorous aspects.

This will guarantee that every full hour of the onset of the year 2000 will be registered, greeted and appropriately celebrated by a well prepared Committee 2000.

Due to the large areas constituting each of the world's 24 time zones, additional Committees 2000, each entitled to the same rights, may be established in a given zone.
THE FUTURE SHOWS NO BIAS.
The Committee 2000 considers itself a free spirited and ambitious, yet by no means elitist association. Everybody is welcome. Ideas are wanted. Independent of race, colour, creed, hairstyle, lifestyle, vocation, member nation, political conviction, personal predilection, profession, obsessions. The future belongs to all of us.

All you need to join us is interest in all things our future promises. And the wish to do something to make it better, easier, funnier. Work on one of our current 2000-projects or start a new one yourself. Share tomorrow with the world starting today! (If you want to change the world, set a date for it!)

The Marxists demand the introduction of 2000 appropriate concepts and figures of speech: Chances are 2000 to one, the night has 2000 eyes, 2thousandpede …

The plans of the Rothschildians read far more prosaic. Their point: Without some economic foundation the goals set up by the Committee 2000 can hardly be attained.

An example of the Rothschildian projects is a "days left until'' calendar that runs up to the year 2000 and whose final form was specified by one of the most widely recognized contemporary European artists, Joseph Beuys.

Or ''Champagne 2000", where 2000 magnum bottles of the finest champagne are being kept in stock for the millennium party. A certificate created and signed by Andy Warhol serves the owner as a constant reminder to get ready for the festivities and as a guarantee of punctual delivery for the millennium celebration
THE YEAR 2000 DAWNS 24 TIMES.
In the meantime the Committee 2000 has found friends and prospective "associates" all over the world. Groundwork is being layed for the establishment of 24 Committees 2000 around the globe.
MAKE YOUR OWN MEMBERSHIP
For anyone who wants to join the Committee 2000 in the sense of thinking up and shaping ideas, there is an opportunity in the form of active membership.

New active members should be willing to bring their own ideas and projects into the Committee 2000 and be ready to establish or join local chapters.

Those who prefer to limit themselves to supporting the ideals and the intent of the Committee 2000, should become "Friends of the Committee 2000".

They will have priority in participatory activities, as in attending special events sponsored by the Committee 2000, and will be kept up-to-date regarding all the activities of the Committee 2000.
