Locations

The next Ars Electronica Festival will be held September 8-12, 2016 (from Thursday to Monday) in Linz (Austria). The festival venues are located right downtown, just a few minutes’ walk or a few streetcar stops from each other.

POSTCITY

Situated amidst the main train station’s yard, the POSTCITY, a 80,000-m2 facility that used to be the postal service’s letter & parcel distribution center will again serve as the main festival venue. The Info desk and artist desk, the ticket office, the press desk and the WE GUIDE YOU meeting point of the 2016 Ars Electronica Festival are located in the POSTCITY.

Parts of the POSTCITY will also open in the evening:

  • THU Sept. 8, 2016, starting at 7:30 PM for the Opening,

  • and SUN Sept. 11, 2016, starting at 8 PM for the Big Concert Night

Ars Electronica Center

The Ars Electronica Center situated on the north bank of the Danube is hosting multiple exhibitions. One highlight is Deep Space 8K featuring twin 16-by-9-meter projection surfaces on its wall and floor.

Additionally, the Deep Space 8K at the Ars Electronica Center is accessible on FRI September 9 until 11 PM, on SAT September 10 until 8:30 PM, on SUN September 11 until 9 PM, and on MON September 12 until 7 PM!

The OK Center for Contemporary Art

At OK in the OÖ Kulturquartier, the Prix Ars Electronica occupies the focal point of attention throughout the festival. This is the site of the big CyberArts exhibition, and the place to go to encounter Golden Nica prizewinners, who’ll be discussing their work at Prix Forum events here.

CENTRAL

The most recent addition to the lineup of festival venues, this former first-run cinema is the ideal setting for the Animation Festival screening the most outstanding animated works submitted for Prix Ars Electronica prize consideration. Experts from throughout the world will also convene here to discuss the future of animation.

Linz Art University

Situated on the Main Square, Linz Art University’s Campus is synonymous with a large-scale exhibition showcasing work being done at a selected guest university.

Anton Bruckner Private University

Anton Bruckner Private University for music, drama and dance opened in autumn 2015, so it’s premiering as a festival venue this year.

LENTOS Art Museum

LENTOS Art Museum Linz is an Ars Electronica Festival partner of long standing. This striking work of architecture showcasing contemporary art is located opposite the Ars Electronica Center on the south bank of the Danube.

Brucknerhaus

You might say that the Brucknerhaus was present at the birth of Ars Electronica, and this sleek concert hall set amidst a riverside park has been a hub of the Festival ever since.
