COME AND SEEN

Philipp Pess (AT/DE)

Pigmentprint on Alu-Dibond, 150 x 110 cm

The concurrent presence of everything created, so the medieval theologians have taught, is hell. Under these auspices the Internet can be understood as a place of world blockage, a grand error, as a digital hell. Philipp Pess creates virtual re-enactments of infernal landscapes. Areas are photographed in their entirety, meter by meter, rearranged in a virtual 3-D-Model and subsequently completed with found footage and digitally drawn elements. The artist integrates alienated ironic self-portraits as an omniscient figure who guides the viewer through his digital Dantesque-terrains.

Philipp Pess aims to generate depoliticized substitute worlds which are detached from respective relations of life and power of the visualized scene. Philipp Pess (b. 1987, AT/DE), lives and works in Vienna.
