Optical Camouflage

04.09. - 09.09. | 10:00 - 19:00

Kunstuniversität Linz / Hauptplatz

Optical Camouflage technology makes anyone and anything wearing a special cloth seems to be transparent.

The cloth is made with a retro-reflective material that reflects light precisely according to the angle of incidence. When an image is projected to the material, viewers at specific location perceive a realistic merger of the projected image with the background? Thus rendering the material transparent. Potential applications of this technology include tele-communication technology called as mutual telexistence, and various methods of removing optical obstructions, such as vehicles that allow pilots and drivers to see their exterior environment more than through windows. This technology is also applied to the field of art in collaboration with Junji Watanabe(NTT/JST) and Nathan Cohen (Artist, U.K.).
