All of Linz - A Group Photo fom Above

04.09. - 09.09. | 10:00 - 18:00

Altes Rathaus

During the festival 2007 Ars Electronica invited everyone in Linz to take part in a group portrait, and hundreds Linzers responded by sending messages directly back via the heavens – on banners, “creatively” mowed lawns and other works of art!

This picture of the entire city was produced by a small aircraft specially equipped for orthographic photography, snapped from an altitude of approximately 1,100 meters. During a four-hour fly over, this eye-in-the-sky took about 4,000 high-resolution images of Linz, its inhabitants and the many interesting activities they planned especially for the occasion. The high-resolution technology won’t leave much out of the picture: each individual pixel will represent a piece of paper in the size of a DIN A4 sheet.

Linz verändert

Linz verändert (changing Linz) is an updated version of the model of the City of Linz developed by the Ars Electronica Futurelab. City maps and aerial imagery from many different epochs enable excursions through the history of this city. Even the so-called ur-plat drawn up before 1824 could be integrated into this. A total of 2,400 points of interest, each with up to three pictures, and approximately 10,000 statistics having to do with 260 time periods have gone into this project.
