The concept of spatial orientation is based on the spatial planes and axes and on the directions that we see as left, right, etc. The perception of a blind person meanwhile brings up the synthesis of distal and proximal perception. The link becomes especially significant when the blind person navigates with something as distant as a satellite – or something navigates him (?).

'Drawing on his first-hand knowledge of technology, Klif savours going back, to the history of the medium, manipulating in unexpected ways the screen itself as the main instrument. The reality of physical space and the virtual one exist in parallel; in a space shattered with screens we exist in both at the same time. The result is not schizophrenia, but pleasure. The dimension of uniqueness, in which the main role is played by the principle of coincidence, and the sensation of freedom that it creates with its electronic ambiences, offer the public the royal space that they deserve.'

Voicings - The performance is cancelled due to illness. »

18:30-18:45

Linz

The performance is cancelled due to illness. Ars Electronica wishes the artist a speedy recovery, and apologize for any inconvenience.

In the construction of musical instruments as well as the human voice itself, the term “voicings” refers to the process of manipulating the mechanics of an individual note in order to change or refine the timbre or volume of that note.

Sonorous Embodiment »

19:30-00:00

Lentos, Brucknerhaus, Donaupark

This sixth installment of Ars Electronica’s gala concert evening gets back to this series’ roots by focusing on the man-music-technology nexus. The concert will establish a link between what might be seen from a contemporary perspective as “old” New Music and the latest trends in this genre: electro-acoustic music by Dieter Kaufmann, visualized orchestral works by Edgar Varése, Elliot Carter and Michel van der Aa, traditional Chinese instruments with electronics and acrobatic voice performance, which audience members can experience with their senses and also participate in interactively.
