"Leading Opinions"As part of the substantive preparations that went into this conference, people from all over Europe were invited to actively participate by formulating their thoughts and views about Europe’s identity. It was indeed quite tempting to be able to reflect the knowledge and intuitions about Europe of a highly diversified sampling of individuals from across the entire intellectual, artistic and political spectrum. At the same time, in light of the conference’s short duration, this was deemed to be a good way to accelerate the meet & greet process among the participants, to promote “team spirit” and to support group dynamics. The resulting portraits showcase a representative sample of these persons and their points of view about Europe, and thus span a conceptual network encompassing core European issues and constitute a Who’s Who of Europe. These portraits are being shown not only as an installation in the Congress Center but also on a special video channel available on the in-room TV in all conference hotels.
