Dass Musik einiges mit Architektur gemeinsam hat, wussten bereits Johann Wolfgang von Goethe und die Philosophen Arthur Schopenhauer und Friedrich Wilhelm Schelling. Sie sprachen von der Architektur als stumme, erstarrte oder gefrorene Musik. Mit dem abendlichen Eröffnungsevent „Frozen Music“ öffnet das Ars Electronica Festival die seit September 2009 verschlossenen Tore zum Areal der ehemaligen Tabakfabrik Linz und lädt zu einem ersten Treffen mit einem der bedeutendsten Industriedenkmäler Österreichs – den ehem. Linzer Tabakwerken. Künstlerische Interventionen, Performances, sowie Licht und Soundinszenierungen im Innenhof stoßen imaginäre Türen und Fenster auf und führen sie tiefer und tiefer hinein, in eine Welt scheinbar erstarrter und doch mit allen Sinnen spürbarer Produktivität.

• Dorian Concept (Affine Record / AT)
  Dorian Concept is interested in exploring the interface between digital and analogue music, composition, musical performance, and improvisation. His musical interests and compositions range from experimental electronic music to hip-hop, funk, and jazz.
• Tim Exile (Warp / UK)
  Als Zeremonienmeister der Improvisation frickelt Tim Exile via Joystick die gegensätzlichsten Soundfragmente zusammen. Sein Kabarett aus Breakcore-Gewitter und Gabba-Ausflügen zieht durchaus unterschiedliche Gemüter an – ein Herz für Spontaneität und Freigeist vorausgesetzt.

  GRIDUO: Alican Aktürk and Refik Anadol (TR) + NEITSCH: Sebastian Neitsch (DE)
  Visual Support: Efe Mert Kaya (TR)

  Working in the fields of live video/audio performance and architectural photography, the duo is particularly interested in the relationship between architecture and media.
