Anāhat Nād or "unstruck sound" is an Indian philosophical concept that signifies a primordial sound from which all sounds proceed. Anāhat Nād, it is said, is a very subtle sound, the sound of the Kosmos which exists by itself. There is no friction involved in the production of Anahat Naad; it was and is, as in the beginning, "uncreated sound", unlike Anāhat Nād which is sound created by friction. The performance is built around Kabir’s poetry in song and is a representation of the philosophical concept using the Indian classical and folk idioms, combining it with the contemporary electronic and a questioning of "unfreedoms" in the realm of sound. We are seeking to counterpoint the "freedom" of Anāhat Nād to the "unfreedom" imposed by human, individual, corporate and institutional agencies through copyright and other restrictive regimes on sound.
