“Defensive Strategies,” a philosophical stroll through a “fallow-land botanical garden” on the grounds of Linz’s former railway freight yard with Hans Kropshofer and Wolfgang Kil.

Berlin architectural critic and journalist Wolfgang Kil was one of the first to call attention to phenomena of urban shrinkage. His hypothesis: The end of the classic Industrial Age and the ensuing Era of Globalization will upset the existing order of our social and spatial environment and reconfigure it just as fundamentally as the Industrial Revolution did in the 19th century. A stroll through this “fallow-land botanical garden” will provide an opportunity for discussions that probe the mechanisms and consequences of these urban social developments and elaborate on “defensive strategies.”
