The widespread availability of LED displays and the integration of building lighting systems with computer networks have brought together the domains of architecture and moving imagery durring the last five years and created far-reaching opportunities.
The first is widespread availability of LED displays bright enough to be prominent in sunlight and the second is integration of building lighting systems with computer networks.
The result is the possibility of deploying imagery that spans building structures or even geographic installations as a unifying element - creating geometries independent of the physical architecture
The installation addresses two elements of this intersection
- image generation for displays comprising heterogeneous elements and
- new building products that allow 'variable pitch' displays to be
constructed: both conceived as integral elements of new building structures and also as temporary installations in the landscape
