A New Cultural Economy Symposium III

Science, Religion, Art, Literature and the Pursuit of the Truth

06.09. | 10:30 - 13:30

Brucknerhaus

Academics, artists, philosophers and religious scholars have pursued the truth through the ages in academic institutions, monasteries, laboratories and the halls of the elite. Contributing to the pursuit of truth in any of these fields required membership, education, funding and authority.

The Internet has changed everything, stripping authority of its grip on the truth and replacing it with a sloppy, bottom-up but mostly effective blob of truth generation and discovery. In this session, we will discuss how the open access to amateurs and “foreigners” is changing the nature of the pursuit of truth and how we need to change in order to maximize the benefits and survive.
