Arabesque I
“Arabesque” is a mechanical flower that has its roots both in Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein and the alchemist’s laboratory.
Translucent models of life-size arms and legs reveal their robot-like mechanisms to installation visitors. The visible wiring constitutes a chaotic, abstract counterpoint to the organized symmetry of the body parts. Controlled pneumatically, the arms and legs move to the rhythm of the Blue Danube waltz like the petals of a flower.
