The structurate™ method we've developed is an extremely versatile tool for designing product surfaces. The way it works is that a specified CAD geometry and a programmed algorithm are used to generate a structurally shaped surface.

Ars Electronica Animation Festival

The works submitted to the 2007 Prix Ars Electronica came from 63 countries. Films were entered by industry pros as well as artists and students from around the world. These are films that tell their stories in very individualized ways that are well-suited to the medium being used; works that cast a spotlight on our society, or entertain us in an intelligent way and thereby demonstrate the power of illusion of motion pictures. From almost 1,500 curators of the 2007 Ars Electronica Animation Festival have put together 10 programs that, for the first time, will be screened simultaneously to interested, curious and open audiences in Linz, at the Museumsquartier in Vienna and in our partner city, Kiev.

Web 2.0 entrepreneurs, media theorists and activists, sociologists, artists and hackers will discuss life in the aftermath of privacy’s demise.

Awards ceremony and presentation of the winning projects as well as the recipients of the Awards of Distinction and Honorary Mentions in the u19 – freestyle computing category. Like most of the contestants in u19’s 14+ age group, the creators of VoIP-Wiki, this year’s Golden Nica prizewinner, have combined social software and Web 2.0 in the conception and implementation of their project.

While the ways and means at the disposal of a control-based society are becoming increasingly refined, artists and hackers are discovering gaps in the system. Creative resistance—beating the system with its own tools—can be put up by everyone. This will be a presentation of the basic principles of finding ways out of the digital Panopticon: active data protection and creative system hacks.

Pixelspaces 2007: Onfield

Pixelspaces 2007 is staging Onfield as a setting for a discussion of an emerging development: the strategies and methods of community informatics are being applied to location-based services. The Ars Electronica Futurelab is thus carrying on its practice begun in 2000 of intensively focusing on leading-edge trends in a series of symposia and exhibitions, and scrutinizing these developments from the perspective of an atelier-lab.

In conjunction with the 2007 Ars Electronica Campus Exhibition, the Institute for Expanded Art will once again be inviting festivalgoers to stop by and spend time among friends. Representatives of the HyperWerk Institute in Basel, local artists and musicians, and their counterparts from all over the world will be presenting their works live in an agreeable setting at the nexus of sound, performance and installation. Rounding out the whole thing will be a multi-DJ lineup each evening.
