A day in the city

The conclusion at midnight of Marco Peljhan's three-hour performance on the roof of the City Garage parking deck will signal the start of a most unusual segment of the Festival program. Anybody in the mood for a fun night on the town can spend it up there al fresco immersed in a spacey array of aerial reconnaissance photos and satellite images projected onto a large-format screen. As the first rays of sunshine are imparting a pleasant glow to the steel and concrete at 5 AM, Ray Lee’s Sirens will commence their performance. Enjoy Breakfast and Tai Chi at 6 AM to the accompaniment of fine sounds and beats courtesy of our DJs. Be sure to get your fill of this nourishment for body and soul ‘cause you’re gonna need it! The preparations for one of the Festival’s absolute highpoints, "ALL OF LINZ—A Group Photo from Above," will be getting underway bright and early! While an aircraft outfitted with special cameras cruises above Linz producing high-definition (64 cm2/pixel) images of the entire city, countless actions will be staged on the ground to generate messages meant to appear on these bird’s-eye views. Artists won’t be the only ones taking part in this; everyone in town is invited to get involved.

Beginning at 2 PM, the radius of activity contracts in on its epicenter: the projects and actions of the Festival program will proliferate throughout a sector of the inner city, spreading out over a radius of several hundred meters, intruding into interior courtyards, taking up temporary residence in churches, retail premises and vacant buildings. Performances, installations, lectures and panel discussions will weave through the fabric of the cityscape.

To get a relaxing overview of what’s going on around you, the steeple of the Pfarrkirche (parish church) and the parking deck of the City Garage will be open throughout the day for your viewing and contemplating pleasure.
A special program of guided tours and kids activities will take a few surprising approaches to mediating encounters with the Festival and its theme.

fair music

Start of the fair music initiative of mica –music austria and presentation of the winners of the fair music award

Music fans have a right to listen to the exact music they want to. Creative artists have a right to receive recognition and compensation for their work and ideas. Listeners assume the money they spend for music will benefit the artists of their choice. But can they really be assured that the artists receive their fair share of the proceeds, and that the artists are allowed to make their music in a free and creative atmosphere and under fair conditions?

Flugstunden

The title track, Flugstunden, is a multi-layered synth piece by Sam Aulinger that features metallic motor and propeller sounds and manages, regardless, to convey a sense of spiritual beauty; it never sounds harsh.

I Forgot I Never Remembered - Sound Installation

A flat, 50-meter-long metal channel extends the entire length of the nave, through the entry portal and out into the square in front of the church. As a gutter, the loosely netted sheet-metal strip isn’t much good at transporting moisture, but, having been worked into a multi-channel resonating surface, it has a story all its own to tell.

Pixelspaces 2007 is staging Onfield as a setting for a discussion of an emerging development: the strategies and methods of community informatics are being applied to location-based services. The Ars Electronica Futurelab is thus carrying on its practice begun in 2000 of intensively focusing on leading-edge trends in a series of symposia and exhibitions, and scrutinizing these developments from the perspective of an atelier-lab.

Storm

Together with BJ Nilsen Chris Watson collected field recordings from storm fronts developed across the North Sea and Scandinavia composed and mixed into a sublime experience of the rhythms and music created when the elements combine over land and out to sea. Storm is produced by Touch # Tone 27 and includes an introduction by the artist himself. This wasn’t the first collaboration between the Briton and the Swede (“Wind and Land,” two albums by Nilsens Hazard), but “Storm” is the first album that’s being presented as a joint project. Of several significant storm fronts which developed across the North Sea and Scandinavia during December 2000 the artists from the British label Touch recorded some of these on the Baltic coast for their collaborative cd project based around their mutual interests in the rhythms and music created when the elements combine over land and out to sea. For the next years they gathered recordings on their respective coastlines and islands during the very active weather windows during the autumnal equinox and winter solstice.

Watch out for GUERILLADISCO!

Mobile Wireless Headphone Disco in a Public Space

Linz’s Main Square as dance floor. In the "Guerillabus," an electronically pimped-out mobile transmission facility, artists will be taking turns at the turntables to delight dancers with music delivered via wireless headphones. Movers and shakers will be able to choose between two channels dispensing two completely different styles of music. The dance floor thus breaks down optically into two very dissimilar groups.
