The Ars Electronica Animation Festival is one of the mainstays of the Ars Electronica Festival. The accent is on diversity with respect to both content and style here. The programming delivers impressive testimony to how quickly (computer) animation is growing and how strongly it influences our everyday life.
This lineup is a double-feature. CENTRAL, a former first-run cinema on Landstraße in downtown Linz, will be screening works of animation submitted for prize consideration to the 2016 Prix Ars Electronica, the prize for creativity and pioneering spirit in digital media arts. Among the jury’s favorites are “Rhizome,” a extraordinarily detailed work by Boris Labbé, the impressive animation by Nosaj Thing accompanying a music video entitled “Cold Stares,” and David Coquard Dassault’s surprising scenery in a deserted high-rise. And Expanded Animation, a series of workshops, seminars and speeches, will once again offer plenty of possibilities to go deeper into the art of animation.
The Computer Animation / Film / VFX Prix Forum will deal with developments in the animation field. With Gerfried Stocker (AT), Boris Labbé (FR), Yuya Hanai (JP), Mari-Liis Rebane (EE) and Johannes Schiehsl (AT).
Electronic Theatre features all prizewinning works in the 2016 Prix Ars Electronica’s Computer Animation / Film / VFX category.
The fourth annual Expanded Animation symposium is entitled The Alchemy of Animation in keeping with the 2016 Festival theme, RADICAL ATOMS and the alchemists of our time.
More than 1,300 works were submitted for prize consideration in the 2016 Prix Ars Electronica’s Computer Animation / Film / VFX category. These entries are the basis on which we’ve compiled the 15 programs that make up this year’s Ars Electronica Animation Festival, a cross-section of the world of digital filmmaking today and its tremendous aesthetic, substantive and technical diversity.
Two winning works of Prix Ars Electronica 2016 – Computer Animation / Film / VFX category and two virtual reality projects are exhibited at the entrance of Central.
